This article explains the method by which you can manage and control internet bandwidth on home network. This is a feature which is available on your home router.

Note that not all routers would have this feature enabled. You need to ensure that your router supports this feature. This can be checked in the specification on the router.

If your router does not support the feature, you can plan to upgrade it. The Asus router with adaptive QOS feature have the capability to restrict and control bandwidth of users on home network.

The following screenshots shows how the bandwidth limit feature on the router can be used.

Step 1 – Enable bandwidth limit on the router

You need to first ensure that the feature is enabled on the router as shown below. (Image reference from Asus portal)

Step 2 – Configure the device details

There are 4 ways to configure the details of the device on the router. They can be configured using device name, IP address, mac-address or also using the range of IP address on the home network which needs to be controlled.

Step 3 – Configure the allowed bandwidth on the router

Once the IP address of the device is configured, you can configure the allowed upload and download limit on the router. This would ensure that only the permissible bandwidth is allowed for the home network device.
